Drug Use
For relief of sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy watery eyes, red eyes, itchy nose and palate, and nasal congestion brought on by seasonal allergies, Allegra-D has been instrumental in relieving these symptoms in adults and children over 12 years.
Dosage
Children over 12 years and adults should take the recommended dose of one tablet twice daily without food. Those with decreased renal function should start with one tablet a day.\
Warnings and Precautions
Allegra-D should not be taken until you have talked to your doctor. Allegra-D has been categorized as a Category C drug by the FDA as they have not determined whether or not the drug will cause harm to an unborn baby. Women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant during the duration of the drug use should talk to their doctors to determine dosage. It has not been determined whether Allegra-D can be transferred to breast milk, so do not take Allegra-D if you are breast-feeding without first consulting your doctor. It has not been approved for children under the age of 12. If you have asthma or any other lung disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, any urinary retention, glaucoma or eye pressure increase, enlarged prostate, kidney or liver disease, heart disease, irregular heartbeat or high blood pressure you should not take Allegra-D. If within the last 14 days you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), do not take Allegra-D.
Missed Dosage
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is close to your next dosage, then skip the missed pill and resume your schedule. Do not double-up.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects are possible and you should notify your doctor as soon as possible if you should have nausea, headache, trouble sleeping, cold symptoms, or an upset stomach and the effects worsen or continue. In addition, if you suffer from dizziness, rapid heartbeat, fever, or mental and mood changes, promptly contact your doctor. Serious side effects such as fainting or an irregular heartbeat may occur and need to be immediately reported to your doctor. Drowsiness is uncommon with normal dosages, however, it should be noted that it is possible and may affect your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. If you notice anything other than these effects and are concerned, contact your doctor.
Storage
Allegra-D should be stored at temperatures between 68 and 77 degrees (Celsius 20 to 25 degrees) and away from moisture or sunlight.
Overdose
Allegra-D in large doses may cause muscle weakness and tension, headache, anxiety, restlessness, nausea, vomiting, palpitations, thirst, sweating, as well as tachycardia, precordial pain, difficulty in micturition and insomnia. Cardiac arrhythmia, along with circulatory collapse, convulsions, coma, and respiratory failure are possible. Toxic psychosis with delusions and hallucinations are also possible in an overdose.
More Information
You may suffer from dizziness with Allegra-D. It is advisable to use caution when operating machinery or driving a vehicle. Other hazardous activities should be avoided when taking Allegra-D. Antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium should not be taken near your dosage time as the antacids may reduce the effectiveness of Allegra-D.
