Drug Uses

Mircette is an oral contraception method. Mircette tablets are used to prevent pregnancy. How it is Taken
Take Mircette as directed by your doctor. Follow all instructions and guidelines for best results. During the first week of starting Mircette you will need to use an additional method of birth control as your body adjusts to the medication.

Take the tablets every day at the same time. If you miss a day simply take a tablet with your next day dose or take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. Mircette is available in either 21 or 28 tablet packs. Take a tablet each day. If you have the 21 pack take the tablets take the medication for 21 days and then skip the next week. Packs with the 28 tablets are meant to be taken every single day. The last 7 days lack the active ingredient of Mircette and are a different color.
Speak with your doctor if you plan to stop using Mircette.

Warnings

Before beginning Mircette talk to your doctor if you have the following diseases or conditions:

  • High blood pressure
  • Angina
  • Heart Disease
  • Blood-clotting disorder
  • Hormone related cancers
  • Stroke
  • Migraines
  • Asthma
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding

If you have a history of jaundice due to taking birth control discuss other options of contraception with your doctor. It is possible that you will need special monitoring while on Mircette if you have a history of any of the above listed conditions.

Women who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant should not take Mircette as the drug is a contraception method. It is possible to pass the medication through breast milk so talk to your physician before starting Mircette if you are breast feeding. Mircette has been shown to cause birth defects to unborn babies so talk to your doctor if you suspect that you become pregnant while on the medication.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember and take the next pill at your regular time. However, if you do miss two active doses you will take two pills on one day and two pills on the next to get you back on the proper schedule. Should this occur you will need to use an additional form of birth control as there is a risk of pregnancy for the next 7 days.

During the Week 3 period should you miss 2 active pills you will want to start a new pack on that same day if you are a day 1 starter. If you are a Sunday Starter and miss 2 active pills you will keep taking the medication for that week and start a new pack on the following Sunday.
While missing one period due to a missed dose is common you should speak with your physician if you go more than 2 months without a menstrual cycle. Remember to use back up birth control methods such as condoms if you miss any doses.

These lesser side effects may disappear in 3 to 6 months if they continue you will want to talk to your doctor about starting a different form of birth control.
