Aciphex is drug that alleviates the symptoms of stomach ulcers and other related conditions. Aciphex tablets comes in two dosages, either 10 mg or 20 mg, and are packaged as 30, 60 or 90 tablets.

Drug Uses

The purpose of Aciphex is to decrease the amount of stomach acid. Aciphex is prescribed for treatment of stomach ulcers, heartburn, gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) and several other medical conditions that involve the excessive production of stomach acid. When prescribed for short-term treatments, Aciphex is used to:o relieve the symptoms of any erosive stomach conditiono reduce relapse rates and maintain healing for patients with GERD-related heartburno treat both night-time and day-time re-occurrences of any GERD symptomsAciphex is prescribed as a long-term treatment for any pathological hyper-secretory condition.

How Taken

Aciphex is an enteric-coated tablet administered orally. The recommended dose for an adult is one 20 mg tablet taken once a day for a period between four and eight weeks. Each tablet should be taken with a full glass of water. Tablets should be swallowed whole and not split, broken or chewed because the Aciphex tablets are designed to release the drug slowly into your system.
Warnings/PrecautionsTell the doctor if you are now taking any of these medicines:o ampicillin (known as Omnipen or Principen)o ketoconazole (known as Nizoral)o digoxin (known as Lanoxin or Lanoxicaps)o cyclosporine (known as Sandimmune or Neoral)o iron (known as Fergon, Feosol, Femiron, Mol-Iron and other names)If you are taking any of these medicines, you may not be allowed to take Aciphex or you may need a special dosage need to be monitored. There may be other drugs other than the ones listed above that might have an interaction with Aciphex. Be sure to ask your doctor and your pharmacist before you take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicine. 

Missed Dose

If you do miss taking your Aciphex at the proper time, take your prescribed dosage as soon as you notice. If you are approaching the prescribed time for your next dosage, do not double-up by taking both the missed dose and the schedule dose -- skip the dose you missed, take only the scheduled dose and resume the prescribed dosage schedule.

Possible Side Effects

Serious side effects from taking Aciphex are uncommon. If, while taking Aciphex, you have an allergic reaction, which may include such symptoms as hives, closed throat, breathing difficulty or swelling of your face, lips or tongue, stop taking your Aciphex tablets and seek immediate medical attention. There are also some possible side-effects that are less serious:o Itchingo Rasho Headacheo Insomniao Diarrheao Upset stomacho NervousnessIf you experience any of these side-effects, continue to take your Aciphex tablets and tell your doctor at the next opportunity about these symptoms. Storage

Store Aciphex away from children. Aciphex should be stored at room temperature between 59°F and 86°F. Do not allow Aciphex to get damp. 

Overdose

The symptoms for any overdose of Aciphex are unknown. If you take more than the prescribed dosage, get immediate medical attention.

More Information

Unless you are told otherwise by your doctor, there are no restrictions while you are taking Aciphex. Even if the symptoms that prompted the prescription of Aciphex have eased, do not stop taking your regular dosage. Be aware that, though your symptoms may be alleviated, your condition will not be fully treated if you stop taking your Aciphex.
