Drug Uses
Cialis is a prescription medication taken by mouth for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men
Dosage
Take Cialis as prescribed by your doctor. Cialis is offered in several different dosages (5, 10 and 20 mg). For most men the recommended starting dose is 10mg. Cialis should be taken once a day. Your doctor will prescribe the right dosage for you. If any questions about your prescription should arise, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
Warnings/Precautions
Cialis can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure which can be unsafe if taken with other medications such as nitrates, alpha-blockers and recreational drugs that contain nitrates called "poppers." A sudden drop in blood pressure may cause you to have dizziness, fainting or heart attack or stroke. Until you are certain how you are affected by taking Cialis, use caution when driving or operating heavy machinery. Cialis contains lactose and you should not take it if you are lactose intolerant. Also, abstain from grapefruit juice while taking Cialis, this can increase your chances of experiencing unwanted side effects. If you are taking any medications with nitrates or nitric oxide, have uncontrolled high or low blood pressure, or if you have a history of heart attack or stroke, do not take Cialis.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible However, if it is near the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
Possible Side Effects
The most common side effects with Cialis are headache, back pain, indigestion, flushing, muscle aches and stuffy or runny nose. These side effects usually dissipate after a few hours. Patients who get back pain and muscle aches usually experience it within 12 to 24 hours after taking Cialis. Back pain and muscle aches usually go away on their own within 48 hours. Call your doctor if you get a side effect that bothers you or one that persists.
Storage
Store Cialis at a temperature between 59 and 86 F (15 and 30 C).
Overdose
In cases of overdose, supportive measures should be adopted as required. Hemodialysis contributes negligibly to Cialis elimination.
More Information
Do not change your dose of Cialis without talking to your doctor. Your doctor may lower or raise your dose depending on how your body reacts to Cialis. Do not drink alcohol to excess when taking Cialis When taken in excess, alcohol can increase your chances of getting a headache or getting dizzy, increased heart rate, or lowering your blood pressure.
