Usage of Viagra

Viagra is an impotence treatment for men who experience erectile dysfunction. Viagra functions by increasing blood flow in order to achieve, and maintain, an erection. Viagra does not protect men or women against HIV, or any other sexually transmitted diseases.

How is Viagra Taken?

Viagra is produced in tablet form and is recommended to be taken orally, approximately one hour before sexual activity takes place, although Viagra can possibly be taken between 4 hours and 30 minutes before sexual activity takes place. It is recommended that Viagra be taken only once per day. Please follow dosing instructions as per your physician.

Warnings for Viagra Usage

If you have a experienced a heart attack in the last six months, or have had a stroke or irregular heart rate, your doctor needs to be aware before prescribing Viagra. Furthermore, any history of heart failure or heart related issues needs to be discussed with your physician before beginning Viagra. If you have angina, irregular blood pressure, coronary artery disease, kidney or liver problems, stomach ulcers, blood disorders such as sickle cell anemia or leukemia, retinitis pigmentosa, or any physical problems with your penis, please make your doctor aware of these issues before beginning Viagra, as these issues could lead to more severe consequences. Viagra is to be taken by men, but it is scheduled as a Class B pregnancy risk, meaning it is not thought to be harmful to unborn children in pregnant women.

What if You Miss a Dose of Viagra?

Since Viagra is taken as needed, there is no true way to miss a dose. With that said, do not take more Viagra than prescribed. If you feel that your dosage is not working properly, discuss this with your doctor.

Side Effects of Viagra

While the following side effects are common, this list is not meant to be comprehensive in any way. If you experience any side effects while taking Viagra, or you simply have questions about potential side effects of Viagra, always consult with your doctor. Some of these side effects are dosage dependant. Common side effects of Viagra are headache, light flushing of the skin, and an upset stomach. Other side effects that are less common include changes in vision, including changes in color and light sensitivity, as well as blurred vision. If you experience an erection that lasts for more than four hours, it is important to seek medical attention at once, as failure to receive treatment may lead to permanent damage. As mentioned, previous or current heart conditions may lead to complications while taking Viagra, including heart attack, stroke, and death.

Viagra should be stored in a sealed, child proof container at room temperature. Do not allow temperatures to span outside of the 15-30°C (59-86°F) range.

Viagra Overdose

If you suspect an overdose of Viagra, please seek medical help immediately. Symptoms of an overdose may include pain in the chest, a dizzy feeling, weakness, as well as leg swelling. As mentioned previously, do not take more than the regular dosages as recommended by your physician.

More Information on Viagra

Medications that contain nitrates are not to be used in conjunction with Viagra. Combining prescription or recreational drugs that have nitrates in them with Viagra could cause a drop in blood pressure. This could lead to dizziness, fainting, and in severe cases, heart attack or stroke. If you are unsure whether any medications you take contain nitrates, discuss this with your primary care physician. Viagra is not for use in children or women and should only be handled by adults. Viagra should only be used by patients for whom it was prescribed, should be used under a doctor's supervision, and tablets should never be given to anyone else.
