The Purpose of Soma
Soma is prescribed to relive the pain and inflexibility that results from muscle spasms that are caused when a patient has experienced a sprain or a strain.
How to Take Soma
350 mg. tablets of Soma are taken by mouth, three times a day before going to sleep. This drug has not been proven to be safe for children under the age of 12. To prevent the upset stomach that Soma has been found to cause, patients may take this medication with food or a glass of milk.
Warning
People who suffer from acute intermittent porphyria should not take Soma. If your doctor has suggested prescribing Soma and you have liver disease or kidney disease, be sure to let your doctor know. Patients with these diseases may need to be prescribed a lower dose than the usual; they may also need to be monitored more closely while taking this drug. The safety of Soma for a developing fetus has not been established, so pregnant women must inform their doctors that they are pregnant before taking Soma. Soma also may be present in breast milk, so breast-feeding mothers must tell their doctors that they are breast-feeding. Children under the age of 12 should not take Soma.
Missing a Dose
A missed dose can be taken an hour after the scheduled time. If more than one hour has passed, the patient should wait until the next scheduled time to take Soma. It is not recommended that patients take a double dose of Soma to make up for the missed dose.
Side Effects of Soma
Side effects that Soma has been known to cause are feeling dizzy, vertigo, tremors, feeling agitated, feeling irritable, headaches, depressive symptoms, syncope and sleeplessness. Some people have allergic reactions to Soma. Those who have never taken Soma will generally experience an allergic reaction between the first and the fourth doses. Soma may also cause rashes, erythema multiforme, pruritis, eosinophilia and adverse reactions to the skin. Some people have had more serious side effects such as asthma, high temperatures, feeling weak, feeling dizzy, angioneurotic edema, eye pain, low blood pressure and anaphylactoid shock.
Storing Soma
Store Soma in a room with a constant temperature equal to 15 to 30 degrees Celsius or 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit in a tightly closed container.
In Case of Overdose
Obtain emergency medical help if hypotension (feelings of weakness and confusion, fainting) develops; other symptoms include slow breathing and passing out.
Extra Information
Be advised to be extra careful when driving a vehicle, operating heavy machinery or performing dangerous tasks. People have been known to become dizzy and sleepy on Soma, and they should avoid engaging in the above-listed activities if they experience these symptoms. Because the consumption of alcohol may increase them, drink alcohol sparingly while taking Soma.
