What is Motrin?
Motrin is most commonly used to relieve the painful symptoms of both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Motrin can be used by anyone who is experiencing pain that is mild to moderate. It is also possible for people with dysmenorrhea, or painful menstruation, to be prescribed Motrin.
How to take Motrin
More than 3200mg of Motrin should not be taken in a 24 hour period. If an upset stomach occurs while taking Motrin, it can be taken with food or milk.
Precautions
If you have had an allergic reaction to Motrin in the past, have nasal polyps, skin swelling or bronchospastic reactivity to a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication or aspirin, it is not recommended for you to take Motrin. It is possible for stomach bleeding, perforation or ulceration to occur while taking Motrin. In cases where this has occurred, there were no warning signs of symptoms.
Missed Dose
If a dose of Motrin is missed, you can take it when you remember that you have missed a dose. However, if this occurs around the time of your next scheduled dose of Motrin, you should not take the dose that was missed. You should never take a double dose of Motrin to make up for a missed dose.
Potential Side Effects
When side effects of Motrin occur, they mostly impact the stomach, intestines and gastrointestinal tract. Vision problems, diminished vision within the visual field and problems with color vision, although less common, have occurred in some people taking Motrin.
Storage Information
For best results, Motrin should be stored around room temperature and within a range of 20-25 degrees Celsius and 68-77 degrees Fahrenheit.
Overdose
If you or someone you know has overdosed on Motrin, vomiting should be induced in an effort to empty the stomach. Emergency medical care should be sought as soon as possible.
Additional Information
While taking Motrin over a long-term basis, tell your physician if you develop a rash, have vision problems, gain weight, have swelling within the bodily tissues or suspect stomach bleeding.
