Uses of Ultracet
A unique pain medicine, Ultracet is used to relieve both moderate and acute pain. It is often prescribed following surgeries and some dental procedures. In some cases, Ultracet may be used for other types of pain. The use of Ultracet and its role in your condition should be determined by your health care provider.
How Ultracet is Taken
Ultracet tablets are taken orally with a drink of water. If Ultracet causes your stomach to become upset, it can be taken with food or milk. Carefully follow the dosage directions written on your prescription label. You should not take more than two tablets of Ultracet at a time; nor should you take more than eight tablets each day. Since higher doses of Ultracet may cause serious side effects, never take more Ultracet than your doctor has prescribed.
Ultracet Warnings
If you have had previous severe allergic reactions to codeine, it is important that you do not take Ultracet. Hives, rash, difficulty breathing, and dizziness are all symptoms of a severe allergic reaction. Let medical personnel know that you are taking Ultracet before you have any medical treatment, dental procedures, surgery, or other emergency care. Talk to your doctor if you plan to become pregnant while on Ultracet. Since Ultracet affects breast milk, do not breast-feed your baby while taking this medication.
Missed Ultracet Dose
If you forgot or were unable to take Ultracet at your set time, do not try to make up for the missed dose by doubling doses or taking extra. If it is almost time for your next dose when you remember or are able to take your prescription, continue to skip the missed dose, and go on with your regular dosing schedule.
Ultracet Side EffectsIf you suffer from rare or uncommon changes in vision, develop shortness of breath, have difficulty breathing, notice changes in heartbeat, suffer from hallucinations, have problems urinating, develop skin conditions including rash and itching, have seizures or convulsions, or see a yellow tint to your skin or the whites of your eyes while taking Ultracet, you should talk to a health care professional immediately. The most common side effects of Ultracet are agitation, anxiety, and vomiting. Other less serious side effects which are normal include a false sense of well being, insomnia, dizziness, drowsiness, dryness of the mouth, unreal feelings, changes in mood, headache, itching, excessive sweating, flushing, and indigestion. These should be reported to a medical professional only if they continue or become bothersome.
Storing Ultracet
Ultracet should be stored at room temperature of 15 to 30 degrees C (or 59 to 86 F). It should be kept out of the reach of children and in a child-proof container. Any unused or expired medicine should be properly disposed of.
Ultracet Overdose
The symptoms of an Ultracet overdose include vomiting, sweating, problems breathing, nausea, and seizures. If you have taken too much Ultracet or believe that you are suffering from an overdose, seek emergency medical help.

Since Ultracet may cause dizziness or drowsiness, you should always perform dangerous activities such as driving or operating machinery with care. If you already experience these symptoms, avoid these potentially risky activities entirely.
