Condylox is the first product that has ever been FDA approved to treat genital warts. It prevents the growth of certain types of cells that produce the warts. Condylox is applied topically to warts that appear on the outside of the body and is very effective in treating and healing genital warts, although it is not a cure.
A licensed healthcare professional, physician, or medical practitioner can prescribe Condylox to their patients. For most patients, Condylox is to be applied to the affected areas twice each day for three consecutive days; the patient should then take the next four days off from treatment. This cycle is repeated at weekly intervals and for no more than a four week period of time. Patients should apply the medicine directly to the infected wart tissue and avoid getting any on healthy portions of the skin. If the genital wart happens to be in a skin fold, it is necessary to pull back the folded skin and apply Condylox directly to the wart. Allow the treated skin to dry before releasing the skin fold. If a dose is missed, it should be taken immediately upon recognition, unless it is almost time for the next dosage. In this case, do not double up dosages; proceed to the next scheduled dosage.
It is important to speak to a medical professional prior to taking or using Condylox, especially if you have had past reactions to other medications or topical solutions. You may require a special dosage or additional monitoring if you have had prior sensitivities to these types of medications. Condylox is listed in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that is in unclear whether the medication is safe to use by pregnant women, nursing women, or a woman that will become pregnant.
If you experience any of the following side effects when taking Condylox, immediately discontinue usage and seek medical attention immediately. If you experience shortness of breath, swelling of the lips, face, and/or tongue, closing of the throat, any excessive burning, stinging, bleeding, or pain at the treated site, unpleasant odor, or pain during intercourse, seek the help of medical professionals. Other side effects may occur. Talk to your doctor if you experience any other symptoms aside from the aforementioned. It is possible to overdose on Condylox. If you should experience any nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, numbness and tingling, confusion, fever, unconsciousness, or seizure, dial 911 immediately.
It is not likely that any other oral or injected medications will have an effect on topically applied Condylox. Drugs can, however, interact with each other. It is important to inform your doctor of all medications you are currently taking, have recently taken, or intend to take in the future. Any prescription medication, over-the-counter product, vitamin supplement, or herbal concoction that you are taking should be mentioned. Do not start a new medication, once on Condylox, without informing your doctor or physician.
Condylox is best stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat; do not freeze the medication. This medication is flammable; do not use it near high heat or an open flame or while you are smoking. Do not share Condylox with others and keep the medication well out of the reach of children and pets. For maximum effectiveness, use the administered dosage, as instructed by your doctor, for the entire length of treatment. Discontinuing treatment early on will yield less favorable results. It is safe to throw away any unused portion before or after the drug's expiration date. If your symptoms have not improved or conditions have worsened after four consecutive treatment cycles, it is important to schedule an appointment with your doctor.
