Denavir is a topical ointment prescribed for those who suffer recurrent cold sore caused by the herpes virus. It prevents the growth of the cold sore.
Drug Uses
Denavir is used to treat cold sores of the lips and face. It is a topical antiviral medication which means that Denavir is applied to the skin and surface of the infected or inflamed area. While the most common use of Denavir is the treatment of herpevirus infections the medication may be prescribed to treat other ailments at your doctors’ discretion.
How it is Taken
Since Denavir is a topical medication you will apply it directly to the cold sore. You will need to apply it every two hours for up to four days or as long as your doctor prescribes. Warnings

Side Effects
Side effects are possible with the Denavir topical cream. Serious side effects have not yet been reported. Side effects can include:

- Rash around the area
- Irritation of the area
- A change in taste

Storage

Overdose
Overdosing on Denavir may not prove to be fatal since it is a topical ointment. The concern comes if Denavir is ingested or comes into contact with mucus membranes like the nose and mouth.
