Denavir is a topical ointment prescribed for those who suffer recurrent cold sore caused by the herpes virus. It prevents the growth of the cold sore.

Drug Uses

Denavir is used to treat cold sores of the lips and face. It is a topical antiviral medication which means that Denavir is applied to the skin and surface of the infected or inflamed area. While the most common use of Denavir is the treatment of herpevirus infections the medication may be prescribed to treat other ailments at your doctors’ discretion.

How it is Taken

Since Denavir is a topical medication you will apply it directly to the cold sore. You will need to apply it every two hours for up to four days or as long as your doctor prescribes. You do not need to worry about application during the hours that you are asleep. You can apply Denavir with your finger or a cotton swab. Make sure to avoid contact with the eyes. Wash your hands after application as it may be possible to spread the herpes virus to other areas of the body and even to other people.

Warnings

Use Denavir only as directed by your physician. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant talk to your doctor before beginning Denavir . If you are breast feeding make sure to talk to your doctor as it is unknown if the active ingredients found in the Denavir cream is able to pass through breast milk.
