Gris-PEG is a prescription medication that is used to treat certain infections that are classified as ringworms. These include: Ringworm of the scalp, nails, groin or thigh, and on the body. It is also used for inflammation of hair follicles on the face known as Barber's itch as well as for the treatment of Athlete's foot.
Taking Gris-PEG
Gris-PEG may be prescribed as a daily single dose or as a multiple dose taken throughout the day. For adults, the dose is usually around 300-350 mg per day, depending on body weight and height. For children, the dose is only around 3 mg per pound.
Precautions
There are certain precautions that must be taken when prescribed medication, and Gris-PEG is no exception. It can cause acute light sensitivity, and people who are taking this medication should ensure that they can avoid prolonged exposure to either strong natural or artificial lights. People should also consult with their physician about any pre-existing conditions that may be complicated by the use of Gris-PEG.
Be sure that your doctor knows if you develop symptoms that resemble lupus, such as a red rash on the face, extreme fatigue or weakness, arthritis, photophobias or skin problems. For people who are taking Gris-PEG over a long stretch of time, make sure that you keep in contact with your doctor so that you can receive standard regular testing, including proper monitoring of kidneys and liver as well as blood tests to discover if red cell division has been affected.

Side Effects

If you do not disclose your drinking habits to your doctor in an honest and straight-forward manner, and continue drinking while taking Gris-PEG, you may experience a rapid heartbeat as well as extreme skin reactions.
Gris-PEG has been known to interact with other drugs, and the result is usually very unpleasant. Talk with your doctor about all of the medications and drugs that you take, and be sure to discuss the quantity as well as the frequency of your use.
