Sumycin is a drug that is used to prevent or treat infections that are known to or suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.

The daily dose in pill form usually starts with 1g to 2g. The physician will decide if the dose needs to be increased depending upon the severity of the infections. Sumycin should continue to be taken at least for one or two more days after the fever and symptoms have lessened to be sure that the infection is gone.

Anyone who is hypersensitive to tetracyclines should notify the doctor before using Sumycin. When Sumycin is used in the absence of a suspected or proven prophylactic indication or a bacterial infection, it is not likely to benefit the patient and may raise the risk of the formation of drug-resistant bacteria.

If you miss a dose, never double up or try to catch up. Wait until the next dose is due and begin the regimen. Do not intentionally skip doses or fail to complete the therapy. This may decrease the benefits of the Sumycin for an immediate treatment. It may also cause the bacteria to develop a resistance to the Sumycin and it won't be able to be treated by any antibacterial drugs or Sumycin if necessary at a later date.

Possible side effects may include are epigastric distress, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, bulky loose stools, sore throat, stomatitis, glossitis, dysphagia, black hairy tongue, enterocolitis, hoarseness and inflammatory lesions with candidal overgrowth in the anogenital region.

Sumycin should be stored away from excessive heat at room temperature. Keep Sumycin in a light-resistant container that is tight and out of the reach of children.

Any suspected overdose of Sumycin should require immediate emergency attention.

Anyone who uses Sumycin as a long-term therapy should have regular laboratory testing of organ system functions that include hepatic, rental and hematopoietic systems.
