Uses of Estradiol
Estradiol is a prescription drug which has been shown to provide relief for many women suffering moderate to serious menopausal symptoms. It is also been useful in treating atrophy of the vagina and vulva. It may be effective in treating some specific cancers. It has been show to prevent or reduce osteoporosis in some women.
Dosage
Your personal physician will advise you on the dosage that is right for you. Some women require only a limited regimen of Estradiol and all patients should be re-evaluated every six months so that the physician can make an informed decision on the continuation of Estradiol.
Warnings
Women who are pregnant, or may be pregnant, should avoid any drugs containing estrogen. Serious birth defects have been reported in women who used any estrogen-containing drug during pregnancy. Estradiol has not been shown to prevent miscarriage.
Missed Dose
Estradiol should be taken as prescribed. If a dosage is missed, take it as soon as possible. Do not take two doses to catch up on a missed dosage. Skip one dosage should this occur.
Possible Side Effects
As with most drugs, the possibility of side effects exists. While taking Estradiol, some women have experienced: upset stomach including nausea and/or vomiting; tenderness or enlargement of the breasts; benign tumors may increase in size; bodily fluids may be retained. This is especially important to patients with asthma, epilepsy, migraine, heart diseases, renal disease, or migraine headaches. A few women have reported a spotty darkening of the face.
Proper Storage
Estradiol should be maintained at room temperature between 59° F and 86° F. This and all other drugs should be stored well out of the reach of children.
