Information About Levbid

Levbid, also known as hyoscyamine, is a medicine used to treat a variety of stomach and intestinal problems such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or IBS, excessive stomach acid production, excessive sweating and drooling associated with diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and excessive pancreas secretions. Other less common uses are treating bladder and bowel control problems and cramping caused by kidney stones or renal calculi or gallstones. 

Levbid is a capsule. It should be taken with a full glass of water. Never crush or chew the capsules. You should never open the capsule. This medication is designed to slowly release in your body. Destroying the capsule decreases the effect of the medication. This medication should be taken at 12 hour intervals.

Prior to beginning a Levbid regimen you should notify your personal physician if you have or have ever had: liver disease, ulcerative colitis, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, hypertension or high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic lung disease or asthma, allergies to any other medications, BPH or an enlarged prostate or ulcerative colitis. Your physician may need to lower the dose of medication you take or give you an alternative to Levbid. It is not clear as to the effects of Levbid and an unborn baby. Notify your personal physician if you are or become pregnant. It is also advisable to notify your personal physician if you are a breastfeeding mother. 

If you miss a dose of this medication take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose of medication, skip the missed dose. Do not double up doses if you miss a dose of this medication. 

Some side effects of Levbid that should be reported to your doctor are headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, feeling weak or nervous, enlarged pupils, rash, flushing or a feeling of warmth throughout your body and redness of the skin, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, bloating, nausea, heartburn, constipation and changes in taste. It should be noted that these adverse reactions can be bothersome but you should not stop taking this medication unless your personal physician advises you to do so. If you experience an allergic type reaction to Levbid such as shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the lips, face, tongue or throat, palpitations or feeling your heart pound in your chest, tachycardia or a fast heart beat or chest pain you should immediately seek emergency medical attention as this may be life threatening. Stop taking the medication if you experience any of these adverse reactions. 

Keep Levbid out of the reach of children. Store this medication in its original packaging, away from heat and light. 

In cases of overdose or suspected overdose, seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of overdose include headache, vomiting, trouble swallowing, feeling hot but having dry skin, drowsiness, confusion, weak pulse, loss of coordination and an irregular heartbeat.

Until the effects of Levbid are known, use caution when driving, operating heavy machinery or performing any other activity that requires you to be alert. Levbid may cause dizziness, drowsiness and/or blurred vision. If you experience any of these effects while taking Levbid, cease the activity.
