Drug Uses
Women with unwanted facial hair may use Vaniqa, a prescription medicated cream, to help reduce the appearance of excess hair. Vaniqa helps to hinder the chemicals that permit hair follicle growth in the skin by slowing down hair growth. When applied to the affected areas, Vaniqa helps to improve the skin’s appearance. Since Vaniqa is not a depilatory, it does not remove hair permanently and it will not cure your unwanted hair problem. Use Vaniqa along with other hair removal treatment techniques that you currently utilize in order to see facial appearance improvements.
How Taken
To use Vaniqa, apply the cream lightly to the affected and surrounding facial areas. Rub the cream in properly and allow 4 hours before washing the treated area. Use Vaniqa twice daily, allowing no less than 8 hours between each application or follow your physician’s directions. Continue to use Vaniqa cream with your existing hair removal methods as required. (Apply Vaniqa no earlier than 5 minutes after hair removal). As soon as the cream has dried on the affected areas, you may apply cosmetics and sunscreen.
Warning/Precautions
Do not use Vaniqa if in the past you have had an allergic reaction after using the cream. Vaniqa is listed in the FDA category C for pregnancy, and there is no information as to whether the medication is safe for the unborn baby. If you are pregnant, do not use Vaniqa before first discussing it with your doctor. Since it is not known if Vaniqa will pass into breast milk, do not use Vaniqa until you speak with your doctor. Vaniqa is not approved for use by children under 12 years old.
Missed Dose
If you forget to use the cream or miss doses, do not try to catch up but continue with you usual schedule and apply the cream as soon as possible.
Possible Side Effects
Some reactions when Vaniqa is applied may include rashes, redness, hair bumps, tingling, burning and stinging on the treated areas. If these conditions continue, consult your doctor. Some adverse skin related effects that may occur in about 1% of persons who were treated with Vaniqa include contact dermatitis, bleeding skin, numbness, swelling lips, rosacea, cheilitis and herpes simplex. Adverse episodes had mild intensity and no medical treatment or discontinuation of Vaniqa were required to resolve the issues.

Store medication at 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit with deviations permitted between 15-30 degrees Celsius or 59-86 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not freeze contents and check packaging and tube crimp for expiration date and lot number.
